Monday Madness: Top Ten Sexiest Roman Emperors - Part I

Its Daisy here, sorry we've been so crap over the festive period - but hey, it was Christmas and blogging was not the first thing on anyone's mind! Hope everyone had a luuurvely time filled with much food and merriment. Anyway, today I'm going to be doing a little countdown with a classical theme, to be more specific I will be examining the supreme hotness of some of everyone's favourite Roman hunks, the Emperors themselves!

If we know anything about antiquity, is that it is SEXY - Hollywood tells us this. If films are to be believed ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt were chock full of sexy men and sexy ladies being hot and sweaty and doing dirty and beautiful things to each other.

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

Exhibit C:

Exhibit D:

Sweet Jesus. I'd excuse anyone for abandoning this post right now and watching Troy instead. For those of you who have stayed we're now going to count down some real life Roman emperors and rank them based on attractiveness. Today I will be counting down my first 5 and then returning in two weeks time for the others.

Now whilst of course we can never really know what any of them looked like, we have a pretty good impression of most of them and naturally we will not be discounting personality - as any good ancient historian knows an Emperors reputation was everything! Now some of them are indeed thought to be pretty terrible people, but everyone loves a bad boy, right?

#1 Hadrian

14th Emperor of the Roman Empire, 117-138 AD.

Whilst Hadrian is of course most famous for his eponymous wall, he is also known as the man who brought the beard back to Rome! During the days of the Roman Empire facial hair had fallen quite out of fashion, that is until Hadrian began growing out his chin pubes and before long they were all the rage again - he is basically the hipster of antiquity. He's also pretty well known for being a good guy; he hardly stabbed anyone in the back and was said to be very hands on with his soldiers. Hadrian is a stand-up, rugged, hairy, down to earth man and if you need any more convincing check out his bust - he looks pretty dishy if you ask me.

#2 Augustus

1st Emperor of the Roman Empire, 27 BC - 14 AD

As first proper Emperor and founder of the Roman Empire with a lengthy 40 year reign under his belt, Augustus gets points for pure POWER. He waged war on Antony and Cleopatra, expanded the Empire on a dramatic scale from Africa to Germania and basically invented being an autocratic Roman Emperor, entering Rome into the Pax Romana, an era of relative peace that lasted over two centuries - this guy was a serious overacheiver! He was also, if we're to believe his own press, pretty cute. Augustus portrayed himself as a cherub haired, angular jawed, perfectly symmetrical symbol off youth and divine good looks, and who are we to argue?? If you're into purported gods among men with impressive CVs, the artist formerly known as Octavius is definitely the guy for you.

#3 Caligula

3rd Emperor of the Roman Empire, 37-41 AD

On the other hand, if sexually deviant, murdering, supposedly insane, tyrants are more your thing, then look no further. The popular lyric 'Live fast die young, bad Emperors do it well' (that is how it goes, isn't it?!), basically typifies Caligula's reign. If rumours are to be believed then Caligula's favourite pass-times were shagging or killing anything with a pulse and after less than four years in power he was unceremoniously bumped off at the grand age of 28. For those of you who like the finer things in life, Caligula's middle name was extravagance with the majority of his power used to build lavish palaces for himself and buy shiny things to fill them with. All the ingredients are here - lust, bloodshed, insanity - Caligula was Rome's ultimate bad boy and you can't deny that makes him pretty sexy.

#4 Domitian

11th Emperor of the Roman Empire, 81 - 96 AD

Completely the opposite to Caligula's outlandishness, Domitian is somewhat of a mystery man. He is the classic brooding, enigmatic type of dude, who supposedly preferred solitude and writing poetry. He is said to have lacked natural charisma, displayed an odd, self-deprecating sense of humour and often communicated in a cryptic manner. Suetonious described him physically as tall and handsome with large eyes. *Swoon* Ooh he does sound so very dark and sensitive and mystifying. In other words: hot - especially if you're the kind of person who went through a serious Edward Cullen phase in around 2007. Now some histories claim him to have been somewhat of a tyrant, but for the purposes of this excercise we'll ignore that and image him as the smart, strange and sexy individual painted by my description.

#5 Commodus

17th Emperor of the Roman Empire, 180 - 192 AD

Now, I won't lie, this pick is most definitely heavily influenced by my deep-seated love for Joaquin Phoenix who played Commodus in Gladiator. Just as Commodus serves as the main antagonist in the film, he is rumoured to have been a bit of a bastard in real life too. He very much enjoyed killing people and animals for sport and spending huge sums of state money on putting on extravagant games - in many of which he was the star of the show as a gladiator. Like Caligula before him, Commodus is generally seen as a bad and misbehaved Emperor and again, just like Caligula, ended up being assassinated - strangled in the bath aged 31. However he is also known for his extreme good looks and impressive physique - now you're talking! In conclusion JOAQUIN I LOVE YOU, you are basically the sole reason for Commodus appearing on this list.

Thank you so much if you stuck to the end, I really hope you enjoyed this and found it both amoosing and informative! See history can be fun. :P
Watch out for part two coming shortly! Lots of love to you all,

Daisy.

What Would You Wear if...? #11

Hello! Lily here,This week I volunteered as tribute for the weekly Wednesday fashion challenge where daisy asked: what would you wear if...

you were taking part in the hunger games?

I've only recently got into the hunger games and I honestly don't know why it took me so long to watch the films! My friends finally got me to watch them and i'm now hooked like everyone else, I also just started reading the books which I am told are even more awesome than the films. I muddied and roughed up my face a bit because you're not exactly going to look perfect after weeks living in a forest (although Katniss still looks pretty good).I would describe my outfit like Katniss's: 'camouflage but badass' - who says you can't look stylish when you're killing people? I also had to go for the iconic Katniss plait for this look as well. My weapon of choice was a samurai sword purely because it looks cool and we had one in the house (for display purposes only - I  promise!) I went out whilst it was hailing to get the pictures, which my photographer - aka mum - wasn't too happy about, but hopefully it adds to the hunger games effect - minus the boiler and the Buddha statue in the background maybe...
p.s I'm totally team Peeta - sorry Abbie!

Goodbye, and may the odds be ever in your favour. - Lily x

Friday Playlist: Movie Soundtracks

Hello and welcome to the Friday Playlist where this week we will be running down some of our favourite music from the world of the silver screen. The movie soundtrack is tricky to get right, however when it is done well it can make a movie and sometimes turn out better than the film itself. Before you ask - No! There will be NO FROZEN featuring on this list - pretty sure everyone over the age of 7 has had their fill of that for one year. Lights, camera...

Daisy

I do love a good movie soundtrack - a fact that made this list fairly difficult for me. I feel like I've missed out some gems and if I had longer to think about it I might come up with a completely different set. Having said this I really like all the ones I have chosen and stand by them as amazing soundtracks. I banned myself from including Beatles films as of course the soundtracks are the actual albums and then the list would have ended up as them exclusively!

1. The Great Gatsby (2013)

Whilst Baz Luhrmann's film extravaganza of the classic Fitzgerald novel got mixed reviews, the soundtrack received high praise and I though was perhaps the standout feature (other than sweet Leo, of course). I personally love the juxtaposition of the 20s setting with modern music but I'm a fan of this in general - I think its just really, really cool - with Luhrmann's 'Romeo and Juliet' being another soundtrack favourite of mine. I think all the songs are really smartly chosen and although I dig the jazz inspired party numbers my stand-out tracks are three of the more dramatic numbers; Lana Del Rey's 'Young and beautiful', Jack White's 'Love is blindness' and Florence + the Machine's 'Over the love'. After I saw the movie I became particularly obsessed with 'young and beautiful', there was one afternoon where I listen to that and Justin Timberlake's 'Mirrors' one after the other, on repeat, for about two hours. It was weird.

2. Death Proof (2007)

Of course there HAD to be a Tarantino soundtrack on here somewhere seeing as they are always the shit and my pick is Death Proof. This lesser known Tarantino film came out as part of his Grindhouse double feature and stars a whole host of strong, sexy, kick-ass female characters along with a very creepy Kurt Russell and a deadly muscle car. This is an incredibly smooth and slick soundtrack and a film I would highly recommend- my favourite tracks have to be April March's 'Chick habit' (listen to this track if nothing else) and 'Hold tight' by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch. Who the hell are they you ask? Well to quote one of the films many leading ladies Jungle Julia - 'For your information, Pete Townshend, at one point, almost quit The Who. And if he had, he would have ended up in this group, thus making it Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick, Tich and Pete. And if you ask me, he should have'.

3. Almost Famous (2000)

This Grammy winning soundtrack totally captures the 70s rock vibe of this cult classic film. I love this era and genre of music so its no surprise that this film and its soundtrack really tickle my fancy and for a movie all about the 70s music scene it really would have been a bad job if they didn't get the music right. The most famous musical moment in 'Almost Famous' is of course the Elton John 'Tiny Dancer' scene and thus is a major highlight of this amazing soundtrack. My other favourites include David Bowie's 'Waiting for the man', The Beach Boys' 'Feel Flows' and Thunderclap Newman's 'Something in the air' but every single track is great. Just an all round eargasm.

4. The Big Lebowski (1998)

Another cult classic with a killer soundtrack: The Big Lebowski. Featuring classic tunes, covers and an original score from Carter Burwell the eclectic soundtrack is always highly praised - its pretty much all over the place but somehow it really works. Standouts for me are Kenny Rogers' 'Just dropped in', Creedence Clearwater Revival 'Lookin' out my backdoor' and the incredible Gypsy Kings cover of 'Hotel California'. Someone get me a white Russian.
(This YouTube playlist is a bit all over the place but just skip tracks at your leisure)

5. Help! (1965)

I'M SORRY! I tried, I really did but to not include a Beatles film would just be lying! I hope you can forgive me. I first saw 'Help!' about five years ago and it is what got me into the band in the first place. It was my first real exposure to their music that wasn't drunk people singing 'Hey Jude' and what lead me to their other albums and to fall in love with them. This album marks The Fab Four's step away from mop-top boy band and towards seriously good songwriting - even if you aren't a mega fan this is a truly great seminal album that represents a landmark in the history of music. Its hard to pick favourites but at a push I would say 'The night before', 'Another Girl', 'I need you', 'You're going to lose that girl', 'Ticket to ride' 'Its only love' and the single most covered song of all time 'Yesterday'. Just listen to it - you will not be disappointed.
If you're a fan watch the film as well - to many its a pretty corny but its a fangirls dream come true.

Honorable Mentions

American Hustle (2013) - Elton John 'Goodbye Yellowbrick Road' , Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) - Jefferson Airplane 'Somebody to Love', School of Rock (2003) - Stevie Nicks 'Edge of seventeen', Kill Bill (2003) - The 5. 6. 7. 8s 'WooHoo', Easy Rider (1969) - Jimi Hendrix 'If 6 was 9'.

Lily

(From Daisy - I strongly approve all of these choices)

1. Avengers Assemble (2012)

As if The Avengers film could get any cooler, it also has an awesome rock fueled soundtrack.  Although not technically included in the soundtrack, a part me and my dad love is when Tony Stark arrives as iron man playing 'Shoot to thrill' by AC/DC and puts Loki in his place. I love the whole soundtrack but some of my favourite tracks are; 'Live to rise' by Soundgarden, 'Shake the ground' by Cherri bomb  & 'Even if I could' by Papa roach.

2. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003)

The soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings make the trilogy so much more epic, Howard Shore created the perfect songs for the battle scenes which just gets you pumped up even more.  The use of a full orchestra for the soundtrack fits so perfectly and really gives the films a more fantasy feel to them which I love. So much time and consideration were put into the making of this soundtrack to fit each scene, and it really shows, there are some beautiful pieces of music. My favourite tracks would have to be; 'The fellowship', 'In dreams', 'The sacrifice of Faramir' ft. Billy Boyd (which is awesome on the trailer for the hobbit) & Foundations of stone (this song gives me chills).                             (This video is three hours long and has all three films in one so its probably best to open in in YouTube to choose tracks)

3. The Shrek Films (2001-2010)

The Shrek films are some of my favourite childhood films ever, they're films you could watch at any age and still love Them. The soundtracks are full of feel good songs and a wide range of genres. They feature some classics songs, my favourites including; 'Funky town' by Lipps inc. , 'Ever fallen in love' by Pete yorn, 'Accidentally in love' by Counting Crows (which is an adorable song), 'Hallelujah' by Rufus Wainwright & 'Holding out for a hero' performed by Jennifer Saunders

4. Sherlock Holmes (2009)

The soundtrack by Hans Zimmer really makes the Sherlock Holmes film it’s just so f-ing cool, I love the quirkiness and the old fashioned feel to it which perfectly reflects the Sherlock Holmes as a character. My favourite track would have to be the opening song called 'Discombobulate'.

5. Jackass 3D

The Jackass films are some of favourites, I’ve watched them soo many times and I still piss my pants laughing every time. The soundtrack to Jackass 3D is a mixture of awesome and hilarious songs which is basically what jackass is all about, awesome guys doing hilarious things. My favourite tracks are; 'The kids are back' by Twisted Sister, 'Party in my pants' by Rodger Alan Wade, 'Afterworld' by CKY & 'You can’t roller-skate in a buffalo herd' by Roger Miller (one of my favourite parts to the movie).

There we have it, another Friday Playlist done and dusted! Hope you enjoyed our picks.
Have a lovely weekend.

What Would You Wear if...? #10

Disclaimer: This post will have way more 'Ks' than it should.

Hello, Daisy here with the weekly challenge. I had intended to do this last week when Lil initially gave it to me, however, I had some sort of reaction to my eyeliner and ended up with a wing-shaped rash on my eyelids. Boo. Anyway, I swore off eye make-up for a few days until my little peepers had recovered and this weeks look would definitely not have worked without lashings of it. You guessed it, its what would you wear if...

You were a Kardashian?

That's right, this week Lil has challenged me to blend into one of the most famous and kontroversial families on the planet - now you know what I needed all the make-up for. I thought if I was going to do this I might as well do it properly and imitate the undisputed kween Kardashian - Kim Kardashian West. Whether you love or hate her you can't really get away from her or her famously ridiculous badonkadonk - most recently seen 'breaking the internet' and being very naked and shiny. Kim's style at the moment is somewhat of a chic uniform - her winning kombination being bodycon, leather, krop tops, turtle necks, pencil skirts and neutral kolours, all topped of with some very groomed hair and make-up. I'm not particularly good at being 'groomed' but I gave it my best shot! My outfit was fairly easy to put together using the aforementioned uniform rules and I have to say, once I got it, plus a strategically placed kushion, on I felt very Kardashian-y indeed.

Watch out for guest star I-love-you Bear playing my very own baby North West.

A candid paparazzi shot

All the clothes are coincidentally from Primark.

After I had taken those photos I really wasn't ready to part with my big butt just yet so I decided to do more of a night time Kim K look as well...

BREAK THE INTERNET!!! Both dress and shoes are both Charity shop buys this time - all about Kim K on a budget.

Finally, of course no true homage to Mrs Kardashian West would be complete without a SHIT TONNE OF SELFIESSS...

The classic 'butt in the bathroom mirror' selfie.

Well I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my foray into Kardashian-hood - who knows, I might even release a sex tape! (Totally joking Mum whenever you read this)

OMG I totally, like, hope you guys enjoyed this. Bible.
Byeeeee. xoxoxo

Friday Playlist: Favourite Glee Performances

ITS HERE! FINALLY!!! Yes, here it is. Our first Friday playlist in about two months, hurray! So no waffle, lets get straight into it, here we have our favourite Glee performances - we never actuallly pretended to be cool.
All the songs will come from seasons 1-3 (aka the golden age) simply because we stopped watching after that...

Daisy

1. How Will I know - Whitney Houston

I love this song in its original and classic Whitney version, however Glee's simple A Capella version really hits the spot. A lot of the time I find slowed down, schmaltzy, vocal versions of big pop hits a bit annoying however I find this stripped back 'How Will I know' really beautiful. I have been singing this in the shower a lot recently and murdering the harmonies - I would highly recommend. Also with helpful Spanish subtitles if anyone needs those.

2. Paradise By The Dashboard Light - Meat Loaf

I always thought the cast of Glee were at their best doing a big, song-and-dance, all-out, ensemble number and this one is one of my all time favourites. There are matching dresses, synchronised dance routines, lots of key changes and sexually suggestive lyrics - what more do you want from a Glee perfomance?! It really kicks off at the 'Will you love me forever?' section - I dunno it just really gets me going (in a mostly non-sexual way). To give you a mental image of me whilst I watch this song - imagine a grandma at a really lively Barry Manilow gig - basically there's lots of bopping.

3. Like a Prayer - Madonna

This one features another classic and wonderful Glee staple - Gospel choirs appearing out of nowhere! The Madonna episode was always going to be sassy and amazing, there were a few I could have picked but this is my personal favourite Madge song. Now as admitted by the show, it sometimes seems like Mercedes (played by Amber Riley) is just brought in to do the huge, wailing notes, however watching this you can see exactly why.

4. The Journey Medley

Of course I had to get some Journey in there, but this is really the Journey to end all Journey! Starting with "Faithfully", "Anyway you want it/Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" and finishing on the song that started it all "Don't Stop Believing" - this performance from the season 1 finale manages to squeeze in four classic Journey songs and is simply amazing. Seriously 'Faithfully' gives my chills - is that really embarrassing? I think this is just about as unashamedly 'Glee' as you can get and that is exactly why I love it so much.

Lily

1. Smooth Criminal - Michael Jackson

This is already an awesome song and although the singing is really good, it’s actually ‘the 2 cellos’ that I really like about this cover. That is some seriously impressive and badass cello playing! I didn’t think I’d explain playing the cello as badass but it really is, and it perfectly builds the tension for this song battle.

2. Start Me Up/Livin' on a Prayer - The Rolling Stones/Bon Jovi

I love the mash up of these two classic songs together and the performance which was a bit different to their usual preppy routine. Although Rachel does over-egg it a bit with her dancing which makes me cringe, it’s still a cool performance. I also really like Mercedes vocals in this song because she sings a bit more rock which I will obviously enjoy.

3. Raise Your Glass - Pink (Mini Warbler Version)

Technically this still counts because I do like this cover, and I like the warblers, but I had to choose this just for the mini warbler because he’s the cutest thing ever. He also has the dance moves down to a T which is impressive to say he really is miniature.

4. Run Joey Run - David Geddes

I for some reason enjoy this Glee cover just because it’s strange and hilarious. I remember watching the episode with this in, which was really funny because of Rachel’s brilliant video. Me and daisy also pissed our pants laughing at the video because of the way Jesse walks at the end, childish but funny.

Daisy & Lily

We both have one favourite in common in common and that is Matthew Morrison and Neil Patrick Harris performing this little baby...

5. Dream On - Aerosmith

Lily- I already love the original of this song and I have this cover on my phone because I think it’s so good, the vocals are insanely good especially the high note at the end, not many men could pull that note off! Plus who doesn’t love a good sing off?!  This would definitely be my song of choice for a street song battle, you know, if I went to those…

Daisy - Like Lil says its the high note that makes this one! I don't really like using 'EPIC' to describe things but sometimes there is no other way! These two give such a brilliant performance that I think is better that the Aerosmith original - old Steve Tyler can't hit notes like that one. I have to say however. neither can I and that definitely doesn't stop me trying. Plus - Lil I would pay good money to see you in a street song battle! (If only they existed)

Okay so there are our top picks. Now to finish, as a little bonus, we thought we'd share with you the most heinous, awful, embarrassing, gouge-your-eyes-out terrible thing to ever happen on Glee - that's right it's Matthew Morrison (aka Mr.Schue) doing 'The Thong Song'. Good luck erasing this from your memories...

Christ!

Anyway hope you enjoyed this playlist - RIP Cory Monteith, you were a brilliant Finn.
We should be back with another playlist next week but we'll make no promises - its taken us two months to get round to this one!
Byeeeee!

What would you wear if...? #9

Hallo there, Lily here back for another Wednesday fashion challenge!  I really enjoyed this fashion challenge, I have a feeling Daisy chose this because she knew it was right up my street. This weeks Daisy asked 'what would you wear if...

You were in the circus?'

At first i was thinking 'if I was part of a circus what would I be?' I could definitely not be an acrobat because i'm not too big of a fan of heights and I am probably the least flexible person ever. I also couldn't be a sword swallower, tightrope walker or the bearded lady... So I decided to be the ring master! I considered being a clown, but I thought I would do something a bit less obvious. I thought this would be a really cool outfit because I got to wear my top hat, my giant shoes and do my makeup - which turned out to be like a cross between a mime, a clown and the crow.

Welcome to the big top...

I didn't want to take this outfit off and I am now considering a career as a creepy ringmaster so I can continue to wear it. My hat, tights and bracelet are from eBay, my jacket is from a charity shop, my shoes are Y.R.U from pulp, and the shirt and bow tie are my brothers from next.
Happy nightmares!

Monday Madness: A Bit Of Something Different

Hello, its Daisy with a light and fun Monday Madness to hopefully expand your YouTube horizons. Now as an avid YouTube watcher I like fashion and beauty channels as much as the next person, they make up a vast amount of my subscriptions and they are incredibly addictive (sometimes worryingly so)! However, sometimes I really couldn't care less about whats in your bag, the latest Lush hall or how to get the perfect brown smokey eye and find myself really wanting a change of pace. That's where these lovely channels come in...

Here I have compiled a little list of YouTube channels that offer something a little different to the usual tidal wave of 'Kylie Jenner lip liner tutorial's and 'How I style knitwear' etc, etc, etc. Its great to expand your interests and try new things, and watching these bite-size videos can introduce you to a world of different topics in just a matter of minutes - whether you want a new skill or simply to learn about something new there's probably a video out there for you. So, next time you log onto everyone's favourite video sharing platform, think about getting some substance up in your face, instead of style!

1. Food Wishes - https://www.youtube.com/user/foodwishes

Food Wishes, presented by the wonderful and invisible Chef John, is a cookery channel with a huuuge repertoire of recipes and one of my absolute favorites! The dishes always look so delicious, even if it is sort of torturous watching a roast duck being prepared whilst I'm sat with a crappy cup-a-soup. Watching food go from ingredients to mouth watering dish in minutes is really satisfying and provides some really practically useful tips for making your own culinary skills that little bit better. Not only are the videos really thorough and easy to follow, they are also hilarious - if Chef John ever decides chef-ing isn't for him, I reckon he could make a semi-decent living on the stand up circuit. His weird one-liners along with his drool-worthy dishes really make these videos stand out from other similar channels. My personal favourite line has to be 'don't put too much honey in - we don't want this to taste like a hippy made it!'.  Here is the man himself making some cheesy, cheesy crakers.

2. Blogilates - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIJwWYOfsCfz6PjxbONYXSg

From cheese to exercise! Now, I'll say this outright: I am physically allergic to exercise - especially in a team or in public, which pretty much rules out most traditional methods of keepings oneself fit. This is where Blogilates comes in. With this collection of Pilates tutorials from instructor Cassey Ho I am free to sweat and groan it out in the comfort and privacy of my own bedroom floor. For a long time after I was set free of the weekly torture that is PE, I just didn't work out at all. After I while decided I really probably should at least attempt some level of physical activity, but I didn't want to shell out money for the gym, I'm crap at sport and I detest running, this is when I took up Blogilates. Its free, requires no equipment or initial skill OR other people - hurray! I won't lie, its not easy but Cassey's instruction and insanely positive attitude really pushes you along and I must say I feel all the better for it. I'm actually moderately good at it now and I really enjoy it (weird), I even have my own Yoga mat (get me) and am considering going to Pilates classes in the cold light of day, around other people - its a miracle! Cassey you have single-handedly made me like exercising and I love you. Whether you're a keen fitness fanatic already or a complete beginner like I was, I would massively recommend giving it a go. Here's a little taster...

3. Crash Course - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX6b17PVsYBQ0ip5gyeme-Q

Crash Course is the brainchild of YouTube extraordinaire's John and Hank Green and basically does what it says on the tin - provides crash courses in a variety of different topics including World History, Biology, Literature, Ecology, Chemistry, and Psychology. John takes the Humanities based topics, whilst Hank covers the sciences and together they manage to cover a massive range of individual subjects from 'The Great Gatsby' to 'How We Make Memories', 'The Ancient Egyptians' to 'Photosynthesis'. Whilst quick, the videos manage to pack in a lot of information and are clearly well researched, bringing in scholarly debates and raising important questions. At the same time they remain easy to understand whatever your level of prior knowledge on a given topic and won't have you reaching to rewind the video thinking 'What the shit are you talking about?'. They are really engaging and manage to get in some pretty interesting discussion given they are only around 15 minutes long! Here is Hank talking about the Psychology of sex - steamy!

4. The What The Buck Show - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzDIsPJjO0K5P00jG8JjlRg

If you like trashy celebrity gossip (and lets not lie, we all do a little bit) then What the Buck is the channel for you. Presented and written by gossip connoisseur Micheal Buckley, What the Buck takes the days celebrity news, be it big or small, and makes it hilarious. Now this isn't a Perez Hilton style 'lets poke fun at people and generally rip them to shreds because their famous' but rather a comic take on the ridiculousness that is the celebrity circus we are confronted with on a daily basis - especially the ridiculousness that is the inflated celebrity ego. Celebrity gossip is an almost unavoidable part of the society we live in and Buck does an amazing job of taking it and making it funny without being mean or disrespectful (remember famous people are people too) until its almost like a satire on celebrity gossip. He's also shows of some impressive dance moves. Here he is talking about the big news this week - Kim Kardashian's arse.

5. Lisa Eldridge Vintage Series - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL820467D574C54128

Okay, Okay, I know I said this wasn't about fashion or beauty channels - I cheated a bit, BUT here I am focusing exclusively on make-up artist Lisa Eldridge's vintage beauty series which is within the bounds of 'something different'. The playlist includes lessons in make-up history, classic vintage recreations using modern products including Monroe and Hepburn and vintage inspired looks using rare vintage products. These videos are really set apart from other beauty videos, eschewing the usual tropes for something much more beautiful and creative, the history videos are especially interesting and detailed. Aside from this series Lisa's whole channel is different to other's in the same category. She is an established make-up artist rather than a YouTube famous 'beauty guru' who offers more subtle and varied videos to some in the latter category as well as focusing solely on beauty and make-up advice, without all the other stuff mentioned in the introduction getting in the way. This series is an insightful masterclass in retro make-up and her vintage collection is truly something to behold.

There we are! Hope you liked and will check some of them out, have a good Monday night!

Daisy.

What Would You Wear If...? #8

Bonjour mon ami, Daisy here! Its my turn to take the fashion challenge which this week is distinctly Belgian flavoured. This is one of my absolute favorite outfits so far - that Lilian knows what I like. This week we're off back in time again and asking; what would you wear if...

You were in an Agatha Christie story?

In our house watching Poirot and Miss Marple stories is somewhat of a ritual - we have all the box sets and come the Christmas holidays you will invariably find me, Lily and our Mum all snugged up, by the fire, with an brew, watching a televised Agatha Christie novel (my idea of bliss). I immediately decided I wanted to base my outfit around a Poirot story as although I do love old Marple, Poirot is my main man when it comes to detectives, especially when played by the inimitable David Suchet. We have such a connection to him as a character that it took us well over a year before we could bring ourselves to watch Curtain: Poirot's Last Case (yes we are that sad). On with the outfit...

Poirot features in stories that span all the way from 1920 to his death in 1975 (after which he became the only fictional character to get an obituary on the front page of The New York Times) so I really could have gone anywhere clothes-wise. In the end I decided to go with something akin to the 20s and 30s, the era in which a lot of Poirot's most notorious cases take place. My outfit has elements of both decades with the 20s favourite cloche hat combined with a more 30s nipped-in style silhouette. I even went full on Poirot and wore patent shoes - the only type of footwear our mustachioed Belgian sleuth would be caught dead in (although probably not in stiletto form). I really enjoyed putting this look together and swishing about the house in it afterwards feeling all lovely and ladylike - all I need to do now is get myself off to a country house filled with aristocrats and wait for someone to get bumped off!

For some reason the pictures came out a bit weird and grainy but hopefully that just adds to the period effect?! My hat is river island and the rest of my outfit is from Charity shops.

Au revoir, mes cheris!

Daisy.
